Alexander Campkin is an award-winning young British composer and conductor.
His work is regularly performed and broadcast throughout the UK, Europe, the US and South America.
He studied Music at the University of Oxford, where he was Choral Scholar, Assistant Organ Scholar, and conductor of the Oxford Chamber Choir and Arcadian Singers of Oxford University.
He continued studies at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University for Music in Vienna.
Alexander was commissioned by Ampersandance (Nottingham-based contemporary dance company) with funding from the Arts Council, to create a 30-minute piece. 'Cycles of Time' is scored for electroacoustics, three sopranos, cellos and six dancers. The company will be touring the piece throughout the UK in 2012.
Mar 2012: Choir & Organ Magazine commission
Alexander was commissioned by Choir and Organ magazine to write a new work for solo organ, 'Solar Flare'. This piece has already been performed five times in Poland, and in the Ukraine, Belarus, Germany and the US.
Feb 2012: Festival of Contemporary Church Music
Alexander was commissioned by the Festival of Contemporary Church Music to write a new Mass setting
"True Light" was premiered by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the Birmingham Cathedral Choir. Composed by Alexander, this piece commissioned by Hamish Pringle for Birmingham Cathedral is the first ever full orchestral setting of John 1, verses 1-14, the 'Great Reading' using the King James version of the Bible in its 400th year.
Dec 2011: Sweden commission
Alexander visits Sweden to sign a commissioning contract for a new piece to be performed by Serikon Ensemble, supported by the Swedish Arts Council
Dec 2011: Galan Commission & CD
Alexander finishes a commission for the Galan Ensemble. This will be premiered by the Ensemble in January 2012 and recorded on their next CD in February alongside one of Alexander's other works
Nov 2011: Finalist in British Composer Awards
Alexander's choral work 'O magnum mysterium', performed or broadcast by the Tallis Scholars in over ten countries, has been nominated in the finals of the British Composer Awards 2011. The winners of the 2011 British Composer Awards will be unveiled at StationersÕ Hall, London on Wednesday 30 November, and a special programme devoted to the awards will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Sunday December 4
Oct 2011: Vienna Tour and Festival concert
The Oxbridge Singers conducted by Alexander will be performing a major concert in Austria's Wien Modern Festival for new music in November. The Oxbridge Singers will premiere 8 new works which have composed for them by composers from the UK, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic

Alexander has been commissioned to compose the first ever full choral and orchestral setting of 'The Word' (John 1, verses 1 to 14) by Hamish Pringle. This commission will be scored for choir and full orchestra, and is to be premiered in November 2011 by Birmingham Cathedral Choir
Mar 2011: Special Prize of the Archbishop of Rouen
Alexander is winner of the Special Prize of the Archbishop of Rouen in the international composing competition Musica Sacra. His work 'Sancte Deus' will receive a performance in the Courant d'Art Festival in Rouen (France) and a 1000 Euro prize
