
Alexander Campkin
Alexander is a composer and conductor of instrumental and choral music.
He studied Music at the University of Oxford, where he was Choral Scholar at St. Catherine’s College, Assistant Organ Scholar at Trinity College, and conductor of the Oxford Chamber Choir and Arcadian Singers of Oxford University.
He took a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Vienna at the Universität für Musik.

May 2009: Appointed Conductorship: Wingrave Singers
Alexander was appointed conductor of the Wingrave Singers in May. He will direct the choir in its active schedule of choral residencies at major Cathedrals, and a range of concerts throughout each year
Alexander was commissioned to write an Anthem for the 125th anniversary celebrations of Pusey House. Earlier they was commissioned a complete Mass Setting
Alexander's choral work 'O nata lux' was selected for the 8th John Armitage Memorial Prize. It will have performances by the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, conducted by Nicholas Cleobury, in St. Bride's Church, London and in Manchester
The British Composer Awards 2008, presented by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in association with BBC Radio 3, have shortlisted my composition 'Counting my Numberless Fingers'. The Award Ceremony - in which the winners are announced - will be broadcast on Radio 3 on 3rd December
The Kaxan Quartet have commissioned a new string quartet for a performance in Spring 2009. Recent engagements include a tour to Bahrain and recitals in the U.K.
Sept 2008: BBC Singers Performance
The BBC Singers, directed by Rachel Coward, selected my composition 'O nata lux' for a performance and masterclass led by choir's chief conductor David Hill
Sept 2008: Academy Symphony Orchestra & BBC TV
The Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra: performed the World Premiere of a new work for orchestra by Alexander, 'Distant Cry'. The performance was filmed by the BBC for a television documentary in Summer 2009
Aug 2008: Postgraduate Diploma in Vienna
After having completed a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, Alexander will begin a Postgraduate Diploma in Composition in Vienna, studying under Michael Jarrell
Jun 2008: Appointed Composer-in-Residence in Germany
The Royal Academy Chamber Choir, directed by Patrick Russill have appointed Alexander Composer-in-Residence on tour to Neresheim Abbey in Germany in 2008
May 2008: Royal Academy Prize for Composition
Alexander was Very Highly Commended in the Royal Academy of Music Alan Bush Prize for Composition
May 2008: Four Radio Broadcasts of Alexander's compositions in Central US
The programme "Vocal Chords" on KRNU in the Central US (90.3FM, iTunes and webcast) are featuring Alexander as a composer in May
Apr 2008: London Sinfonietta & Royal Academy of Music Commission
The London Sinfonietta in association with the Royal Academy of Music commissioned Alexander to compose a concertante work which will be performed in the Front Room of the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 16 April
Mar 2008: Choral Commission & Composer-in-Residence
The Fulham Camerata commissioned Alexander to compose a second work for them. They have also recently appointed him Composer-in-Residence
Feb 2008: World Premiere in St Paul's Cathedral
The Arcadian Singers of Oxford University premiere Alexander's new work, 'Canticles in G'
Jan 2008: Complete Mass setting Commissioned
Pusey House, Oxford, commissioned a complete Mass setting for their 125th Anniversary celebration in 2009
Dec 2007: Charity concert raises £1400
The Oxbridge Singers, conducted by Alexander Campkin, have raised £1400 for Cancer Research in a carol concert in Trafalgar Square
Oct 2007: Selected for London New Wind Festival
Alexander's Wind Quintet was selected to be performed in the 10th London New Wind Festival, which will take place in November in a concert hall on Oxford Street, London.
Sept 2007: Sir Peter Maxwell Davies becomes Honorary Patron
Alexander founded the Minimalist Ensemble in 2005 to represent contemporary music with a focus on minimalism. The Ensemble performed in the Duke's Hall in September 2007 and are extremely privileged to now have British composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies as Honorary Patron.
Aug 2007: Commission from Manson Ensemble in Association with the Southbank Centre
Alexander is commissioned by the Manson Ensemble in Association with the Southbank Centre to compose a new work for the upcoming Nono ‘Reflections of Venice’ Festival
July 2007: Commission from Fulham Camerata
Alexander Campkin is commissioned by the Fulham Camerata to compose a new setting of ‘Musica Dei’
June 2007: RAM String Orchestra Commission
Alexander Campkin's composition ‘Walk in a Whisper’ - commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra - was premiered on 22 June in the Duke's Hall
June 2007: Dignatus Choir Commission
‘The UK's newest elite chamber choir’, Dignatus, are commissioning Alexander Campkin to compose a choral piece for their November concert
May 2007: Leeds Lieder Festival
Alexander has been selected to take part in the Leeds Lieder Festival 2007. He has teamed up with award-winning poet
Donald Atkinson to create a new work.
Apr 2007: Competition & TV event
Alexander Campkin's composition ‘Soft Snow’ was selected for performance for the BBC GoSing event. The concert is in the BBC Broadcasting House on 9 July, and it will be filmed by the BBC for TV.
Apr 2007: The Easter Triduum
The Arcadian Singers of Oxford University toured to Ampleforth, directed by Alexander Campkin.
Jan 2007: Prize
Alexander Campkin's choral work ‘Song of a Man who has Come Through’ was selected for the 6th John Armitage Memorial Prize. To be performed by the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, conducted by Nicholas Cleobury in St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street, London
Dec 2006: Midnight Mass at the London Oratory
‘Sleep, Holy Babe’ by Alexander Campkin was sung by the London Oratory Choir, conducted by Patrick Russil, before Midnight Mass, attended by a congregation of approximately 2000 people. This piece was also performed in Westminster Abbey on 11 December 2006
Dec 2006: Charity concert raises £500
The Oxbridge Singers, conducted by Alexander Campkin, have raised over £500 for the charity CRISIS in a carol concert in Trafalgar Square
